Day One-Hundred and Ninety-Five

I have a song for you today. Last week when it was stuck in my head, Laurie told me that there was a lovely rendition of it in, "O Brother Where Art Thou?" Tonight I watched it with Cecilia and the song is stuck in my head again. As I went down in the river to pray Studying about that good ol' way And who shall wear the starry crown? Good Lord show me the way! O sisters let's go down Let's go down, come on down O sisters let's go down Down in the river to pray As I went down in the river to pray Studying about that good ol' way And who shall wear the robe & crown? Good Lord show me the way O brothers let's go down Let's go down, come on down Come on brothers, let's go down Down in the river to pray As I went down in the river to pray Studying about that good ol' way And who shall wear the starry crown? Good Lord show me the way O fathers let's go down Let's go down, come on down O fathers let's go down Down in the river to pray As I went down in the river to pray Studying about that good ol' way And who shall wear the robe and crown? Good Lord show me the way O mothers let's go down Come on down, don't you wanna go down? Come on mothers, let's go down Down in the river to pray As I went down in the river to pray Studying about that good ol' way And who shall wear the starry crown? Good Lord show me the way O sinners, let's go down Let's go down, come on down O sinners, let's go down Down in the river to pray As I went down in the river to pray Studying about that good ol' way And who shall wear the robe and crown? Good Lord show me the way

Day One-Hundred and Ninety-Four

Last Saturday I was talking to a guy, Seann, about crying during movies. He mentioned that he cried, or almost did, when he saw My Dog Skip. I didn't know what the movie was about exactly, but today I saw it at the library and decided to check it out. Sure enough, there were 4 parts that made me emotional, 3 of which I cried during.

If you don't like animals, you probably won't like the movie. If you do like animals, you won't necessarily like it either. It's a catch 22 really. The movie's leading roles are a boy and his dog. So, non-animal-lovers may not understand that bond and the love one can have for an animal. They don't understand what it feels like to have a dog as your best friend and therefore they can't appreciate Skip. People who have pets or love animals understand the significance of having a dog as a child. They laugh and smile as the dog grows up with the little boy. They may even feel a connection to this boy and his dog when they think of their dog. But when bad things happen in the movie, they may be angry or saddened by it.

It's a tear-jerker for sure and I don't know if I will watch it again, but I have to say, I don't regret watching it. It was a great movie! * * * * _

Day One-Hundred and Ninety-Three

I am going to be a bridesmaid for the second time in just a couple weeks. There are other things to do besides standing in a dress holding flowers. You have to help with the Bridal Shower for instance. I worked to get everyone's mailing addresses a few weeks ago and today we sent the invitations. Lisa and I went looking for cards and debated quite a bit about which ones to get. There were several kinds that could have worked, but we wanted easy ones that said, "What? Where? When? RSVP?" I have seen boys that have better handwriting than me, so I let her write the cards while I addressed them. I always love hanging out with Lisa, even if it is to 'work'.

Day One-Hundred and Ninety-Two

Some days it seems like there is nothing to write about. Some days it seems like I am just writing the same thing over again and repeating myself. My friend Mac told me on those days I should do something like a verse of the day or something. So today I pulled up my Bible app on my phone and the verse of the day is: "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. (1 John 4:18, 19 NIV)" I used this verse once in a devotional at school. The math department encourages all of the students to offer a devotional at least once in the semester. When I talked about this verse, I was referring to one of my friends. I said that I should not fear to tell her anything because she is my friend and she loves me and I love her and nothing I say can ruin that. This verse always makes me think about her and that I have nothing to fear in our loving friendship. But today wasn't a nothing day. I saw my friend Elizabeth and I always enjoy seeing her bright smiling face. Then tonight I spent time with my dad which was awesome! Love me some Panda Express!

Day One-Hundred and Ninety-One

I spent most of the day at the library again. This time I changed out 26 light bulbs in under an hour! Moving the ladder into place was probably the most difficult part of it.

Katie came to the library today to do the Amo Leer story time. It was good to see her for a quick bit. She would have stayed longer but baby is sick.

I think it's a bad sign when the man at the tire store starts to know who you are. It means you have lots of tire troubles. It wasn't my car though; it was Barry's.

Sheila's birthday was today so my mom made her a pie. Laurie met us at Sheila's house and we all sang to her. She was super happy to see us.

Each of those stories have three sentences. My mom told me 3 words, 3 sentences, or 3 minutes based on the person's level of interest. I would have done 3 minutes but that is arrogant and I don't know your reading speed.

Day One-Hundred and Ninety

The Adult Fiction Large Print section of the library looked about like this for some time. Remember when I weeded the VHSes? Well that made room for the Large Print collection to be spread out. Cecilia and I worked today to spread them out and weed a little bit. Afterwards it looked much nicer more like this:
Can you see how each shelf has room on the end to expand? That's a good thing! I really like helping out up at the library. There are so many things that I can do and feel useful. I like feeling useful!

Day One-Hundred and Eighty-Nine

This little guy is a trouper! I took the dogs for a long walk today up to the library. It was 3.5 miles round trip and I was tired by the end of it. They visited Ms. Abby and she gave them water. Once we got back they went to sleep and I was able to do laundry and dishes. I hear you can do the same thing with small children. Wear them out and let them sleep while you do house work. I said good bye to the puppies today and was sad to leave them. Knowing I wasn't going to be cleaning up anymore pee, poop, or vomit made me happy though.
Saturday night means gathering! It is always so uplifting to fellowship with the Body of Christ!

Ps. I used Instagram for this photo!

Day One Hundred and Eighty-Eight

I learned in marketing class about Diffusion of Innovation. There are Innovators who are the first 2.5% of people to get the product. Next are the Early Adapters who represent 13.5%. Early and Late Majority each make up 34% of the consumers. The last 16% of people to purchase a product are called Laggards. I consider myself to be a member of the Late Majority. I gave in today and bought the iPhone 4s for my upgrade. I won't get into the frustrating details of it, but know that I didn't come by it easily.

I have a whole list of Apps I already know I want:

  • Magic Piano
  • Draw Something
  • Words With Friends
  • Pandora
  • Shazam
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Gas Buddy
  • Flashlight
  • Netflix
  • IMDB
  • Chase

Crazy huh? I am going to be very absorbed for a while until the new wears off. With my record for dropping phones, an Otter Box is in the near future for me.

Day One-Hundred and Eighty-Seven

I had lunch today with a friend of mine, Audrey. I had the worst possible item (health wise) that they serve. Mozzarella Sticks, Friend Pickles, Onion Rings, and Buffalo Chicken Strips with Ranch composed my super yummy plate. I ate about a third of it with water and took the rest with me. But, more about Audrey. I haven't really hung out with her much since I graduated and that has been very sad. She had some stuff to get off her chest today and I like to be a listening ear for my friends. It was really great to spend some time with her.
I have been trying to hang out with all of the people that said, "We should hang out!" and we haven't yet. It's not going so well. I am randomly crazy busy at moments and when I have down time I forget that there are still people I really want to see. I should just get sticky notes or put reminders in my phone or something so I will stay focused on the task ahead.

Day One-Hundred and Eighty-Six

Instead of the traditional flag cake that my mom usually makes, she decided to try this. It is a new recipe she found. If you are grilling outside you can stick these on the grill to heat up the marshmallow and enjoy smores! We stuck them in the oven because the grill was too cool by the time I went out there. I was glad to eat with my family today. The doggies and I stayed inside and didn't watch fireworks. I felt pretty lame, but I wasn't really in the mood oddly.

We celebrate our freedom with fireworks. We don't have freedom when there is a burn ban though, because they are telling us that we can't. I hope you know what I mean because explaining it is beyond my abilities right now.
