Career Options

As many of you know I am a junior this year and that means I have to start all of the college prep things soon. I will need to take the PSAT, the ACT and eventually the SAT. Also I have to start thinking about what colleges I would like to attend and of course all possible majors.

I have known for a while that any position in the medical field would not be beneficial seeing as I cannot be around blood and guts without gagging. I am aware that there are other jobs that do not require the presence of blood to be considered medical but I am not really interested in those careers.

The school system is another career option that I believe would not be good for either the students or myself. I have no patience for people who do not know what I know and I do not care for school.

While there are hundreds of thousands of occupations out there, many of which I would be capable of, I am not sure what career I would like to pursue. I honestly do not care what I do for a living and would let someone else choose for me as long as I was guaranteed that I would enjoy my work.

Another career option I have strongly considered is being a chef. After seeing No Reservations and Ratatouille I was "inspired" and had no other dream than to cook! I have since become aware of just how picky I am with the food that enters my body and I think it best to not be a cook.

I have considered being a writer as well. But since I lack creativity I would not be able to write any fiction books. Neither philosophy nor theology nor history nor biographies are not my strong point. I doubt I would enjoy being a screenwriter so what does that leave? The newspaper.

The newspaper is reporting a lot of times and other stories are about a subject they have already decided upon. I think it would be interesting work for me. I do not like doing reports or papers for school but I like to talk. The newspaper is one way to be heard. You are not trying to tell your story while the baby is screaming, the phone is ringing and the dog is barking. You just sit on the dining room table until all noises have ceased and the person is ready to listen to you.

I am capable of writing, as we all know since I have 8 posts now, but my question to you is this. Do you find these posts worth reading? I would not want to be a writer no one liked. College would help perfect my writing skills and help me learn about proper punctuation. But what would be the point if no one will read what I write?

Your responses to this post will greatly influence whether or not I continue to consider being a writer.

  3. Jamer, I have finally read your latest posting, and like I said before, I enjoy reading what you have to write. My eyes can keep up with what you're writing, and I can hear the words coming from your mouth in my mind. Hearing the words in person, my ears have a hard time keeping up with you, but I do not want this to be the only way we communicate. I do want to hear your voice and be able to hold you in my arms giving you a "I love you"-type hug.
Continue to grow and learn and write.

  4. Hey Jamee...so that whole newspaper thing is amazing, but it takes a very passionate person to work at a newspaper. Lots of stress. Lots of time away from home. But lots of excitement and fun. If this is really what you want to do, we can talk sometime. This is one of those times that I really wish you went to DHS because you would already know if you are passionate about journalism.

But listen to God, kid. I'm almost 19 years old, and He still hasn't told me what He wants me to do. But I am not ready to know, so I'm resting in His peace. Trust me, He will reveal His plan for your life as you need to know it. If He told you what your life would be like in 10 years, what would be the point in following Him? Chase after Him, Jamee, and everything else will fall into place.
