"It's a student life memory." "A student life memory?" "A student life memory!" "IT"S A STUDENT LIFE MEMORY!!!
A tribute to the Green Machine:
So my Student Life Camp record isn't all too great. I've been twice out of 4 opportunities. My 8th grade year wasn't too memorable except for all the stuff that I didn't like. But this year was different. I don't know of anything that really was "bad".
Before camp I had a list of reasons I didn't want to go to:
1) I hate charter buses and I didn't want a 14 hour bus ride!
2) Neither of my BFFs were going with me!
3) Last time I had a bad time.
I also had 3 reasons to go:
1) Addison Road!!!
2) Mona needed someone she knew to go on the trip.
3) I'd never get to go anywhere with the seniors again.
But to me the 3 reasons to not go outweighed the reasons to go. Even after I got on the bus I still didn't want to go. Now about the reasons I didn't want to go.
1. The bus) Turns out I got to sit at the very front by myself and the bus was unusually quiet so it wasn't bad at all and coming back we made bunk beds out of the chairs and it was great!
2. My friends) My friends had life changing experiences while they were gone and if they had been there I know camp wouldn't have been the same for our group. Not in a bad way but if you changed the people in our group there's no telling what it would have been like.
3. The former experience) Well if there is anything I've learned this summer it is "Never expect the same things to happen." Camp was incredible!
At camp we had an awesome Family Group! From my church 2 seniors were student leaders, 1 adult was a leader and another girl and me were in the group. There were 3 kids from Arizona and 3 kids from Midland. God blessed our group with the 2 best looking guys in the whole camp! The adult in our group who has been happily married for over 20 years even thought he was HOT! But it's not the hot guys that made our group awesome. It was the way we came together like a family. Everyone talked and interacted during the Bible studies and worked together during the games.
The rec team was super too! The AT2AP (All Things 2 All People) actors were great. The speaker Wes Hamilton was awesome. He preached straight out of the Bible but kept everyone awake by telling some stories. A lot of times you'll have a preacher who either tells to many stories or someone who will put you to sleep without telling any. The band Addison Road was incredible! And the staffers from Midland were fantastic!!!
The best part of camp was during our church group times in the evenings. We had prayed the first night that God would break down the walls before the last night and He did. On the third night, I'm not sure what you would call it but, it was spectacular! Everyone in the room got up in front of our group and spoke. People that would never talk in a small group of 5 were speaking in front of 43 other people! Some got up and told about what was going on in their life, some about what they were learning this week, some (the seniors) about how they would miss us, some about nothing, but the most common subject was the need for leadership in our youth group. Everyone realized that God was calling us to lead. I know a few people who have been praying for this day to come and it came. It was a great night!
One other memorable thing was the "girl talks" we had. They were very informational and educational to say the least. It was slightly embarrassing but it could have been worse. At least I wasn't the one mis-phrasing things that implied a totally different thing and the whole room burst out laughing! I love Amber! Such a sweet "innocent" kid!
My favorite thing was getting closer to our group. I realized a bunch of things. Hollis and Taylor have matured slightly. They are boys but they aren't the little kids I've seen them as for the last 3 years even after they changed their ways. I also got to know Ashley, who I've never really talked to before that week, and got to know Kayla a little better too!
In conclusion, what I gained from the week at camp is this:
1) Better friendships with multiple people
2) A better understanding of the leadership role I need to take in our youth group
3) A desire to be closer to God
4) Many memories!!
A tribute to the Green Machine:
"Green's gonna rock the house, said green's gonna rock the house!"
"Say what?"
"Green's gonna rock the house, said green's gonna rock the house!"
"Say what?"
"G-R-double E- N! Green's the team that's gonna win!"
"G-R-double E- N! Green's the team that's gonna win!"
"Say what's your color? What's your team?"
"Green machine, green, green machine!"
"What?"
"Green machine, green, green machine!"
"Throw up your 'G' let me hear you scream!"
"Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
