Greatest Olympic Athlete Of All Time!

As you've probably already heard, Michael Phelps has won 11 Olympic gold medals. That is more than anyone else in the history of the Olympic games. If you haven't seen him race, you haven't been able to see the commitment and determination that he shows while racing. I watched him last night for the first time. I thought it was funny, not his form or his appearance, which might I say were both spectacular, but his emotions. He was surprisingly relaxed as he was racing. After winning the men's 200m butterfly with a time of 1:52.03, which set the world record, with a scowl on his face, he angrily slammed his fist into the water. This man had just won his 10th Olympic gold medal and set a world record. Yet he wasn't happy with just that. The Bible says:

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the
prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 1 Corinthians 9:24 (NIV)

All the men competing swam, but only Phelps got the gold medal. Phelps swam in such a way as to get the prize, and he got it. That's all that he needed, but he wanted more. He wanted to take his time down to 1:51. The Bible tells us to run to get the prize, but should we stop when we get the prize? Michael Phelps has won 11 Olympic gold medals. He didn't stop when he got the first one. Once we "get the prize" we should continue with the same desire and perseverance as before. We shouldn't be satisfied to just win, but we should strive to keep improving with every success.

  1. I just read all of your blog's postings. I'm very proud of your writing, even with the prepositions at the end of some sentences. I'm leaving my first comment on this posting because I figured you would check here first, but I could be wrong. Keep up the writing and the toning of the skill the Lord has given you. I love you. {:O)
