Day Eighty-Four

For James' birthday I came home to spend time with him. Joe's Run in Ft. Worth was today and that was what he wanted to do. While he was a beast and did the 10K, Cecilia and myself only did the 5K. Me and 5Ks aren't friends, in fact I kind of despise them because they often destroy me. This time I didn't prepare for battle at all. I was scared I wouldn't survive, but as I rounded the corner and the finish line was in sight, I threw it into overdrive and finished at a sprint! It took about a minute or so to cross the starting line, and when I got to the end the sign said 36:28. I was impressed that I sustained about a 12-minute mile for that long.
It is a small world fyi. As we crossed the street from the parking lot to the race area my dad's recovery nurse from a few weeks ago spotted us and said hi. Next I saw my youth minister's wife at the CareNow tent. She pointed me to him and another couple from church. After the first mile of the run I saw an officer blocking traffic, turns out she was my camp counselor from many years ago. When I got to the finish line, mom says that my racing buddy, 69 year old Nancy, is here. I found her and talked for a second. So crazy to run into so many people at a 5K!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES!!!
